About

BRUJAS is a free-form feminist project & streetwear brand.

WE EXPRESS COMMUNITY THROUGH SKATEBOARDING, ART AND POLITICAL ORGANIZING. BRUJAS was launched by two best friends—Arianna Gil & Sheyla Grullon—in 2014, since then our work has become a media phenomenon and heavily active organizing force in global street culture. Over the last three years BRUJAS have hosted regular events developed by and for urban Youth across the United States. In October of 2016 we launched a project through Kickstarter titled 1971 which raised $23,000 to produce a streetwear line. All profits were allocated into a legal fund where we have over the last year paid young people's transit tickets, sent funds to families of our incarcerated peers and people getting out of prison. FASHION AND ACTIVISM AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK This fall we produced a syllabus with full length accessible texts titled "Burning Down and Dreaming Up." We released the syllabus and clothing line with a New York Fashion Week presentation "Each One Teach One" where participants learned about the history of school desegregation and radical pedagogy. With skateboarding at the core of our lifestyle we have also created space for other spontaneous activities including hiking, capture the flag, and herbal medicine and fermentation workshops. PARTIES ARE ANOTHER CRUCIAL PART OF OUR WORK We have thrown over 25 parties at small clubs and apartments as well as large venues for our annual Anti-Prom, which hosted upcoming "non-dude" talent Yaeji, Cardi B, & BRUJAS own Tabby Wakes. Our parties intend to create safe space where women and gender nonconforming people can take charge creatively. BRUJAS are employing tactics of economic advocacy and creative support for young women, gender-non-conforming people and co-conspirators of all genders, ethnicities, backgrounds and expressions. SUBSCRIBE TO DRIP, AND SUPPORT OUR GROWTH, ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY PRACTICE BRUJAS will continue making sure our group, affiliates, and close community are regularly supported in the arts, activist work with family-style support by developing strategies around releasing work to engage the larger public. Your support will enable our practice.
