Today, after months of performing and touring, I wanted to share with you some reflections on my current work, Séancers.
Séancers is as much an offering as it is a calling to history, both personal and public. It is a way I have cultivated in order to navigate the wake.
I always come back to Christina Sharpe’s text, which I include in many program notes, in thinking about and preparing to enter the world of Séancers. It reads:
“What does it mean to defend the dead? To
tend to the Black dead and dying: to tend
to the Black person, to Black people, always
living in the push toward our death?”
-- Christina Sharpe, In the Wake: On Blackness and Being
And, we keep pushing.
Thank you for your support thus far.
Stay healthy, stay energized…
