"For hundreds of years," editor Dale Peck writes in his introduction to 'Other Tongues', a new section of Evergreen, "English appropriated the world's stories. Now the world is appropriating English to deliver its own news." "Other Tongues" features work by writers writing in English as a second (or in some cases third) language. On display is new work by writers from China, Guatemala, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Taiwan, and Turkey. The work varies widely, both formally and in its subjects, as you would expect of such a far-flung cast, but all eight stories are united by a desire to represent the diversity of experience and identity to an increasingly borderless world.
