Welcome to the Photo Parlour Nottingham. We’re a community darkroom, film processing lab, gallery, studio, as well as a hub for photographers in the Midlands. Dan Wheeler has been passionately building a community around the space after taking over the lab in 2014; however the lab itself has existed for 23 years. During this time, the lab has become a fundamental resource for the Midlands photography community and students studying in the area. Professionals, amateurs, students and teachers make up a strong and growing membership who are helped to hone their craft and improve their skills, regardless of experience and ability. There is something for everyone - amateur or professional, beginner or experienced. Some of these photographers have gone on to have international exhibitions and others are still yet to be discovered - which is why we have created our very own drip! The Photo Parlour also contains rare facilities like a colour darkroom and a dip’n’dunk colour film processor. These pieces of equipment are sought-after commodities, requiring love and care to keep them running. Our aim at The Photo Parlour is to support and feed a growing photographic community that transcends our humble beginnings in Nottingham. We want to provide inspiration, support and teaching facilities for photographers across the country, whilst producing exciting work with those interested in photography as a creative medium. Our photographic workshops are provided by Dan Wheeler and notable photographers and darkroom experts, several associated with establishments such as Magnum Photo Agency and the Royal Photographic Society. These workshops include black & white and colour printing, image sequencing, handmade bookmaking, and portfolio reviews. By following our drip you will be given exclusive access to digital content, showcases of work produced by our members and associates, videos about our darkroom and how work is made, and interactive Q&A’s with celebrated photographers and people that interest us. Once the project is underway, we aim to create tiers which will enable us to send out bespoke gifts including stickers, posters and hand-made darkroom prints. The Photo Parlour isn't just a film lab, it is a rare and special resource that is the the keystone of a large and growing photographic community. Be a part of our thriving photographic community while helping us grow.
